Gifted and Talented Programs
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) services are specialized education services that meet the needs of students who have advanced ability strengths in verbal, quantitative, or non-verbal thinking skills. GATE services enhance and enrich the Washington County Public School essential curriculum. Our services do this by developing academic, creative and critical thinking skills. We also provide social emotional skill development to our gifted students through this enriched curriculum. If your child qualifies for these services they will be pulled out during the school day to collaborate with other like minded students through a complex learning curriculum. GATE services are open for students in first and second grade at Ruth Ann Monroe Primary School, and will be screened for their qualification status. If your child qualifies for GATE services you will receive a letter in your child’s folder with additional information.
Talent Development services are for our PreK and Kindergarten students at Ruth Ann Monroe Primary School. All PreK and kindergarten students will be screened for qualification status. Students who qualify will be pulled out during the school day to focus on the development of specific learning behaviors including: perceptiveness, communication, inquisitiveness, persistence, creativity, resourcefulness, and leadership. We also engage in creative and critical thinking activities in order to stretch the boundaries of their performance and potential. If your child qualifies for Talent Development services, you will receive a letter in your child’s folder with additional information.
